Fotona laser for acne

The Medical Power of Light

The Fotona SP Dynamis laser is an excellent treatment option for acne. The procedure is safe and effective for treating active acne and preventing future acne and scarring. It uses light energy to target oil production, inflammation, and skin bacteria, thus addressing all causative factors of acne.

In addition to treating acne, the laser energy induces neocollagenesis and improved tone, texture, and tightening after repeated treatments.

The Fotona laser uses a pulse duration of 600 microseconds, 50 times shorter than the pulse duration used in laser hair removal. This allows the laser energy to pass through the epidermis 50 times faster, preventing overheating and burns. It is safe for all skin types.

Laser treatments are conducted every 1 to 2 weeks. Predicting how many treatments you will need is impossible because people may respond differently. However, most people require between 3 to 6 treatments. Long-lasting results have been seen for over a year; however, some require maintenance treatments. The better your skin care regimen, the more likely you will have long-lasting success.

In our experience, there is no purging of acne with this laser. You may restart your skin care regimen the next day.

Fotona laser treatment may be combined with topical retinoids, oral antibiotics, and even Accutane. This laser can help reduce acne flares when starting Accutane.

The Fotona laser is often combined with salicylic acid peels for combined benefit.

Duration and Frequency:

Each treatment typically lasts approximately 10-15 minutes, and there is a feeling of warmth, but usually, no pain is experienced. Therefore, there is no need for topical numbing. In fact, topical numbing is not permitted before this treatment. Treatments are conducted every 1 to 2 weeks until the goal is achieved.

Permanent remission of acne is possible with this laser. Often, there is improved skin texture through the induction of neocollagenesis.

Risks and Side Effects:

Despite the ultra-short pulse duration, temporary hair removal is possible. With repeated treatments, it is possible to have permanent hair removal. This is more of a concern when treating darker skin types, darker colored hair, and men's beards. Permanent hair removal in blond hair or red hair individuals is highly unlikely. Hair removal in women is often a desirable side effect.
